This is Dr. Seong Ik Hyun, plastic surgery specialist at AB Plastic Surgery. I would like to talk about the swelling of double eyelid surgery, which is a frequent question asked by patients who come for double eyelid revision consultation for reasons such as dissatisfaction with the line, double eyelid loosening, and functional abnormalities after the first double eyelid surgery.

 Q. I am considering revision surgery. Will the swelling from revision surgery subside later than the first surgery? "

NATURAL ADHESION METHOD

Surgery method

1. When the first double eyelid surgery was performed using non-incisional, natural adhesion, etc.

Non-incisional and natural adhesion, due to the nature of the surgical method which maintain the original structure without significant changes in the basic anatomical structure, so there is no significant difference from the first surgery, and the degree of swelling reduction is similar

INCISIONAL METHOD

Surgery method

2. When the first double eyelid surgery was performed using the incision method

If an incisional double eyelid surgery was previously performed, changes occur in the original eye structure and the degree varies from person to person, and adhesions occur accordingly depends on how much skin was excised, fat removed, ptosis correction performed, and to what depth the dissection was done. Therefore, when performing a revision, there is a possibility that the extent of detachment in the surgical area may expand along with the process of releasing existing adhesions, so the speed of swelling reduction may be slower compared to the first surgery.

However, revision surgery does not necessarily mean that the speed of swelling reduction will slow down.

Differences will clearly occur depending on the surgical method, individual skin condition, and recovery speed. If you take appropriate care after surgery, such as reducing your intake of spicy foods and taking regular light walks rather than lying down, you can reduce swelling more quickly.
