Middle Age Eyelid

Posture

  1. Elevating your upper body and keeping your head higher than your heart for 3 to 4 days after surgery will help reduce swelling. However, it is not an essential position, so if it is uncomfortable, you can sleep in the correct position.

Swelling

  1. Immediately after surgery, both eyes will never be the same. Even the slightest difference can seem greatly exaggerated at first due to swelling.
  2. Most major swelling goes away within a week, but minor swelling can last for 1 to 3 months or more.
  3. Use cold compresses for up to 3 days, and no additional compresses are needed after that. If the bruising is very severe, warm compresses may be helpful after 3 days.
  4. Precautions when using hot compresses
    1. You can use the compress after soaking it in warm water. (Do not use microwave oven)
    2. After surgery, the sensation in and around the surgical area may temporarily become dull, so when applying a heat pack, be sure to check the temperature of the pack on other skin (such as the inside of your arm) before using it on the surgical area to avoid burns.

Wound care

  1. Please refrain from rubbing your eyes or closing them tightly.
  2. Immediately after surgery, there may be blood at the surgical site.
  3. Stitch removal takes place within 3 to 10 days of surgery, depending on the wound.
  4. Apply eye ointment to the stitch area twice a day (morning and evening) by applying a small amount to a cotton swab. (If your eyes are dry, you can put it in your eyes before sleeping.)
  5. Never forcefully remove scabs that are stuck to the surgical site.

Face washing, shower and make-up

  1. Starting 3-4 days after surgery, it is mostly okay to lightly touch the wound with clean water, but avoid contact with water as much as possible on the surgical site until the stitches are removed.
  2. Washing your face and light makeup (basic makeup, skin makeup, etc.) are possible starting the day after stitch removal.
    1. Start carefully without rubbing your eyes.
    2. In the case of fat relocation under the eyes, you can lightly wash your face starting 3 days after surgery. (However, there may be differences depending on the surgical method.)
    3. Heavy eye makeup can be worn 3 weeks after surgery, and when removed, gently wash your face using a special cleanser.
  3. It is recommended to apply artificial eyelashes after 1 month and semi-permanent tattoos after 3 months.
  4. It is recommended to use lenses 3 weeks after surgery.
  5. Jjimjilbang, sauna, and swimming are prohibited for one month after surgery.

Work out

  1. Light exercise is possible after 1 week, and strenuous exercise (gym, hiking, swimming, etc.) is possible after 1 month.

Taking medicine

  1. Please take the medicine prescribed upon discharge regularly at the designated time. If symptoms such as diarrhea or hives occur after taking the medicine, stop taking it and contact the hospital.
  2. There are painkillers in your prescription, but if you still feel a lot of pain after taking them, you can take additional Tylenol.
  3. Avoid multivitamins (especially vitamin E) and nutritional supplements for 1 month after surgery as they may cause bleeding. It is recommended to avoid aspirin for 1 week unless absolutely necessary.
  4. It is not recommended to take anti-swelling medication as it may cause bleeding.

Drinking and smoking

  1. Drinking and smoking are prohibited for 1 month after surgery because they adversely affect bleeding, wound healing, and infection.

Lapse

  1. Bruising, redness of the eye, and conjunctival edema may last for 2 to 3 weeks. In particular, it can occur significantly if a posterior or lower flap has been performed, and some patients are worried because it is the first time they are seeing it. Most of them disappear completely, but it may take some time depending on the severity.
  2. The final shape is completed after 3 to 6 months. Asymmetry due to initial swelling usually improves over time.
  3. After surgery, there may be a foreign body sensation in the eye, glare, blurred vision, and appearance out of focus. In most cases, it improves over time, but if it is uncomfortable, use artificial tears frequently.
  4. If subocular fat relocation surgery is performed through the conjunctiva, accumulated blood may come out like bloody tears even up to a week after the surgery. You can rest assured that it is not bleeding. However, if symptoms persist, please visit the hospital.
  5. Please be careful not to apply force or pressure to your face after lower eyelid surgery as there is a risk of bleeding.
  6. ※ If you have undergone incision surgery (incision double eyelid, lower eyebrow lift, upper eyelid, lower eyelid), please refrain from doing anything that increases blood pressure, such as straining your face or blowing your nose, for 1 month.

In emergencies

  1. If you experience severe eye pain, vision changes, or sudden severe swelling within 24 hours after surgery, go to the hospital immediately.(02.512.1288)Alternatively, please contact the manager's business number and visit the hospital.
