AB Plastic Surgery Presents “Periorbital Anatomy for Safe Eye Surgery”
On July 5, plastic surgery specialists from across Korea gathered for the 2026 Korean Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons Eye Surgery Research Society Symposium, where the latest academic achievements and surgical techniques in the field of eye surgery were shared.
At the symposium, Dr. Choi Jae Ik of AB Plastic Surgery, who focuses on facelift and eye surgery, took the stage as the first speaker of the first session.
He highlighted the key anatomy of the periorbital region extending from the under eye area to the forehead and shared practical surgical techniques based on actual surgical footage.

“Practical Anatomy of the Periorbital Area: Essential Landmarks for Safe Surgery”
He explained surgical anatomy to plastic surgery specialists from across Korea by directly connecting anatomical concepts with actual surgical footage.
The presentation covered the process of accurately identifying and preserving the Lateral Canthal Tendon, which supports the eyelid margin, the Lockwood’s Ligament, which supports the eyeball from below, and the Inferior Oblique Muscle, which moves the eye.
It also emphasized the importance of the Motor Branches of the Facial Nerve, which are easily overlooked, and the Zygomaticofacial Nerve, which is responsible for sensation around the cheekbone, highlighting the need to protect these structures to ensure safe surgery.
2. Understanding Nerve Anatomy and Fascial Planes in Brow Lift and Forehead Lift Surgery
The forehead and brow region contains the Supraorbital and Supratrochlear Neurovascular Bundle as well as the Temporal Branch of the Facial Nerve.
The presentation explained the anatomy of the Sentinel Vein, an important surgical landmark, the Deep Temporal Fascia, and the Facial Planes, which help protect these structures and allow safe tissue dissection.
3. Step by Step Anatomical Review Based on Actual Surgical Footage
Rather than relying solely on illustrations from textbooks, actual surgical footage was presented step by step.
The session showed participants the anatomical structures encountered during surgery and explained how they are identified and protected in real surgical settings, receiving a high level of engagement from attendees.
4. Discussion of Anatomical Variations and Danger Zones
Because nerve pathways and blood vessel locations may vary from patient to patient, the presentation also addressed anatomical variations and surgical Danger Zones that require particular attention.
It also shared practical Technical Pearls for reducing the risk of nerve injury and vascular damage.
Dr. Choi Jae Ik of AB Plastic Surgery stated,
