If you have ever considered facial contouring surgery, I think you have probably seen or heard from people around you or on the internet, “Facial contouring will make your cheeks saggy.” So today, I would like to share my opinion on facial contouring and sagging cheeks.

Q. I have a lot of cheek fat. Will facial contouring cause sagging cheeks?

Facial contouring surgery does not cause sagging cheeks in everyone.

Sagging cheeks are one of the symptoms that may occur after facial contouring surgery. However, having facial contouring doesn’t mean it happens to everyone. Sagging cheeks may occur due to particularly poor skin elasticity, excessive osteotomy, leaving skin in the reduced space, or excessive subcutaneous fat in the cheek.

In particular, in the case of cheek fat, it is necessary to determine whether it is severe buccal fat or simply thick subcutaneous fat. If you have severe buccal fat and your cheeks appear to have a lot of fat, you can prevent sagging cheeks to some extend by performing buccal fat removal surgery at the same time as facial contouring. However, if there is a large amount of subcutaneous fat rather than buccal fat, sagging cheeks are more likely to occur than in buccal fat cases. You do not need to worry too much as this is something that can be easily prevented by performing corrections through surgery such as lifting or liposuction of the appropriate range according to individual characteristics.
